Back-up Care helps employees secure and pay for temporary child or senior care when their regular care plans are disrupted due to planned events (e.g., school closings, caregiver vacations) or unexpected events (e.g., illness, inclement weather). The program helps employees get work done by providing:
- Support for planned and emergency child and adult care needs
- Access to network of highly credentialed providers
- Reimbursements when using your own personal network of caregivers
- 24/7 support from Specialists

Financial Aid for Adoption & Surrogacy reimburses eligible employees with at least six months of service up to $15,000 for specific expenses related to adopting a child under the age of 18 or born via surrogate. This program covers adoptions that are handled through an agency, private adoption, the adoption of a spouse’s child (or adoption of the employee’s child) and surrogacy.
Employees may be reimbursed for expenses related to:
- Adoption agency fees
- Surrogacy fees
- Legal fees
- Healthcare costs
- Children of foreign origin

Maternity Management Programs
Building Healthy Families from Anthem and Beginning Right® from Aetna, will provide helpful information and support throughout those nine months — so you can have a healthy pregnancy, and your baby can have a happy and healthy start.
Even if this isn’t your first baby, these maternity management programs will help you prepare for what’s to come. When you participate and complete the program, you’ll be eligible to receive:
- A $500* gift card if you enroll by the end of your first trimester; or
- A $100* gift card if you enroll by the end of your second trimester
* Rebate subject to taxation according to IRS guidelines.

Doula Services
Pearson medical plans administered by Anthem reimburse up to $2,000 for doula services. Doulas must be certified by one of the organizations below to be eligible for reimbursement:
- Birthworks
- Childbirth International
- Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association
- Commonsense Childbirth Inc.
- Doulas of North America (DONA)
- International Center for Traditional Childbearing
- International Childbirth Education Association
- National Black Doulas Association

Reimbursement
To be reimbursed, you must submit a claim with a detailed receipt which includes the services provided by the doula as shown below:
Valid Procedure and Diagnosis Codes
- Doula birth services (procedure code: 99499)
- Evaluation/Management/Labor and Support Postpartum services (procedure codes: 99501, 99502, 59430)
- General Postpartum care (diagnosis codes: Z33.1 and Z39.2)
Total Amount Paid
- Procedure code/services performed
- Cost per procedure
- Place of Service (patient’s home, office, hospital, etc.)
- Doula’s Name and license information (including business address)
- Dates of service
Note: Reimbursement may be subject to taxation according to IRS guidelines.
Breastfeeding Support by Care’s Mother’s at Work Program
Care can help make breastfeeding easier. While breastfeeding is a wonderful experience, it can also be challenging. As a Pearson employee, you have access to Care’s Mothers at Work program to help you through the rough patches, answer questions and address your concerns.
Mother’s at Work Services
- Unlimited 24/7 phone access to lactation consultants for one-on-one guidance and referrals to local lactation consultants
- A complimentary kit containing products and guides to make breastfeeding easier
- Discounts on Medela breast pumps
- The MilkShip program to help you safely ship breast milk home when you travel for work

New Care.com Membership Enrollment
- Enroll and log in at Pearson’s Care.com or the Care app to get started. You can also call 1-800‑450‑7071.
- Identify the type of care you need at pearson.care.com or the app. If you’re calling in, press the number that corresponds to your care needs.
- Follow the prompts to complete your search for care.
Already Have a Care.com Membership?
To access the free membership as a Pearson employee, you will take the following steps:
- Enter the email address and password associated with your existing Care.com account. You will be prompted to provide your unique employee identifier (Pearson employee ID number) to verify your eligibility for the employer-sponsored membership.
- Go to Pearson’s Care.com portal.
- Select “Let’s Get Started” and follow the prompts.
- When you see “Are you new to Care.com?” select “No.”
