Commitment to Accessibility: Pearson’s Global Accessibility Policy Framework

Recognizing that accessibility is a constantly evolving landscape, Pearson created a Global Accessibility Policy Framework to guide our accessibility strategy as technology and user needs change. The Policy Framework allows each Pearson business unit to create and implement policies and processes that align with their specific customers, geographies, and regulatory environments. Pearson’s commitment to disability equity will continue to be woven into our culture, content, services, development processes, innovation efforts, and partnerships.

Level of Accessibility Compliance

Website

As of October 9, 2024

The new Pearson Benefits US website (aside from downloadable documents) meets compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guides (WCAG) 2.2, level AA and some of level AAA as documented in the Pearson Benefits US Website Accessibility Conformance Report (Word, 5.2 MB).  We will continue to perform incremental testing as the site changes and evolves to ensure that this level of accessibility compliance is sustained.

The old website was audited in 2024 and the following improvements were made to improve usability and accessibility:

  • Light user interface (UI) redesign
  • Simplified header, accessible search, and accessible main navigation
  • Simplified footer
  • Added appropriate landmarks, semantic structure, and breadcrumbs
  • Site map and content restructuring to consolidate information and limit click-thru levels to obtain information, often by presenting content in accordion structures
  • Updated fonts and created type scales with large font sizes for improved visibility
  • Eliminated inappropriate tables, and created accessible tables for navigability

Downloadable Documents

As of October 9, 2024

An audit of all documents available for download via the Pearson Benefits US website was completed (2024). Remediation of first-party documents to meet compliance with WCAG has begun and will continue throughout the end of 2024 and 2025 until all documents are compliant. We are in the process of requesting remediation of all documents created by third-parties. If you require a downloadable document to be remediated please send a request to [email protected].
