HEALTH CONCERNS FOR DIFFERENT RACIAL GROUPS
Every racial or ethnic group has specific health concerns which can be a result from genetics, environmental factors, access to care and cultural factors.
African Americans
The death rate for African Americans has declined about 25% over 17 years, primarily for those aged 65 years and older. However, younger African Americans are living with or dying of many conditions usually found in older, white Americans.
Hispanic Americans
This group is 1.2 times as likely to be obese than non-Hispanic whites and more than 50 percent are expected to someday be diagnosed with diabetes.
Asian Americans
This group reports fewer mental health conditions than others; however, they are more likely to consider and attempt suicide. This is sometimes due to the stigma associated with mental disorders, which might bring shame to the family name.
