Did you know that each day 6,000 American’s turn 65? …eldercare is replacing childcare as the biggest dependent care need? Most of us will face the eventuality of caring for an aging relative in some form or another. If we are unprepared there are many emotional and financial consequences that can cause unnecessary hardship.
The best time to plan for eldercare is while your aging-loved-ones are healthy and living independently. In order to provide some assistance to employees who are or may face eldercare issues, we have partnered with LifeCare to offer the Prepare to Care program. We are bringing a Geriatric Care Manager on-site to provide a convenient way for employees to discuss and prepare for eldercare issues with an experienced professional. A geriatric care manager (GCM) is a professional who specializes in assisting older people and their families in meeting their long-term care arrangements. GCM’s have training in gerontology, social work, nursing, and counseling.
How do I participate? Watch for announcements of the program at your facility. If your facility is not currently participating in the PREPARE TO CARE program, contact your local HR representative and send your e-mail request to [email protected]. If there is enough demand we will work to make the program available.
Remember: LifeCare is a Pearson-paid benefit and adult care specialists are standing by 24 hours a day to help with all your eldercare needs. Call them at 800-450-7071 or visit them on the web-site at www.lifecare.com. If you are not already registered with LifeCare, all the instructions are available here.
‘ There are only four kinds of people in the world: Those who currently are caregivers; those who have been caregivers; those who will be caregivers; those who will need caregivers. ‘ …Rosalynn Carter
